Onesmo's College Fund
Onesmo is a young Tanzanian man who has been a good friend of me and Caroline for nearly 10 years. We first met Onesmo when we lived in Songea and he was employed to paint our house. As we got to know him, we learned of his aspirations to become a teacher. We decided to support him with the costs of the teacher training, and seven years later he is a successful primary teacher in a small town in south west Tanzania.
Recently we helped him to undertake professional training in special education. Onesmo is a hard worker and very committed to his studies, and when he finished his training it wasn't a surprise to hear that he really excelled. Onesmo is one of only a few students on this course to be given the opportunity to study a degree in Special Needs Education at Tumaini University. This is a dream come true for Onesmo who has aspired to teach at secondary school level and help children with special needs to gain an education.
Onesmo has been granted leave of absence from his job for 3 years to undertake his degree (starting next September 2012). He will continue to be paid throughout, but he has to find the money to pay for his university fees "“ £3,000 in total. We have already raised a third of this amount and we are hoping that you can help us with the rest.
