 Sometimes, starting over doesn't happen because you're ready. Sometimes, it happens because staying where you are is no longer an option.
</div>

 I spent 12 years in an abusive marriage, trying to survive a relationship that slowly chipped away at my sense of safety, stability, and self-worth. Eventually, I faced a choice I never imagined I'd have to make: stay in a situation that was hurting me, or find the courage to leave everything familiar behind.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 I chose to leave.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 I escaped with a broken foot, my beloved dog by my side, and very little certainty about what would happen next. I didn't have a comfortable home waiting for me or a safety net to catch me. I had what I could carry, a dog who depended on me, and the determination to find a way forward.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 For a time, that meant living in the woods.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 It wasn't glamorous, and it certainly wasn't easy. I was injured, vulnerable, and trying to figure out how to rebuild my life while simply getting through each day. But even in my hardest moments, I knew that leaving was the first step toward reclaiming my future.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 Through everything, I held on to my career working with dogs. I've spent approximately 20 years in professional dog care, and caring for animals has always been more than a job to me. It has been my livelihood, my passion, and a part of who I am.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 I kept working as a doggy daycare manager while rebuilding my life from scratch. Little by little, I proved to myself that I could survive what had happened to me and create something better.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 Then, in June 2026, I took another enormous step forward. I accepted a kennel job in Phoenix, Arizona, and flew myself and my dog back to my hometown to begin a new chapter. After everything I'd been through, coming home represented a fresh start and the chance to build a more stable life.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 For the first time in a long time, I was moving forward with hope.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 Then life threw me another devastating curveball.
</div>
<div>
 In early September 2026, at just 43 years old, I broke my hip.
</div>
<div>
 Suddenly, the independence I'd fought so hard to regain was threatened all over again. I could no longer work while I recovered, and without my paycheck, keeping up with basic living expenses became incredibly difficult.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 On September 29, 2026, I underwent a full hip replacement.
</div>
<div>
 Recovery has meant putting my life on hold physically, even though my bills haven't stopped coming. Rent is falling behind, essential expenses are piling up, and I'm facing financial pressure at a time when my body needs rest and healing.
</div>
<div>
 After surviving an abusive marriage, living in the woods with a broken foot, working to rebuild my life, and making my way back home, it's incredibly difficult to find myself needing help again.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 But I'm learning that asking for help isn't giving up. Sometimes, it's what allows you to keep going.
</div>
<div>
 My goal is to recover, get back to work, and return to caring for the dogs I love.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 I'm hopeful that I'll be able to return to work in less than a month, depending on my recovery and my medical team's guidance. I want nothing more than to get back on my feet, regain my independence, and continue building the peaceful, stable life I've worked so hard to create.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 Right now, I need help bridging the gap between where I am and where I'm trying to go.
</div>
<div>
 Donations will help me catch up on rent, pay essential bills, cover everyday necessities, and give me the breathing room I need while I heal. Every dollar will help ease the immediate pressure and allow me to focus on recovering safely so I can return to work.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 If you're able to donate, please know that your kindness will make a genuine difference in my life. If donating isn't possible, sharing my story with others would mean just as much.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 I've spent my career caring for dogs, supporting the people who love them, and showing up every day for animals who depend on me. I've worked hard to rebuild my life when it would have been easier to give up.
</div>
<div>
 Now, I'm asking for a little help while I heal.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 I once flew across the country with my dog and the determination to start over. I did it with a broken foot, very little certainty, and the belief that a better life was possible. I haven't stopped believing that.
</div>
<div>
 I'm still that same determined person. I'm just temporarily injured, unable to work, and trying to keep a roof over my head while I recover.
</div>
<div>
 I'm not asking for someone to rebuild my life for me. I'm asking for a helping hand so I can continue rebuilding it myself.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 Thank you for reading my story, for your generosity, and for helping me get back on my feet, one step at a time.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 With heartfelt gratitude,
</div>
<div>
 Katie
