Dear friends and family,

I am required to tell a story in order to persuade you to donate to this "cause." The truth is that I'm doing this against everything that I believe in. I never want to ask anyone for money, especially when it's not for something crucial like medical bills or saving someone's life. However, the universe has a crazy sense of humor and Oprah says you get in life what you have the courage to ask for...  So here I am, trying to appeal to those of you who love me in hopes that you know me enough to know I wouldn't be asking for help if I didn't wholeheartedly  believe in what I am doing.

Many of you know that I moved to NY to become an actress. I was lucky enough to live out my dream and book a  bit of acting work.  But throughout the years, I struggled to get parts that I felt mattered or represented women properly, more specifically, women of color.  As I navigated the unfair and dissappointing business of having to accept tired -and often demeaning -roles, I began to look at alternatives that would do me justice. By creating short scripts with female-centric storylines for my friends and myself, I discovered my love for directing and producing, but more than anything for writing. I am never as condifent in anything I ever do as I am when I tell a story. I think I found my true path, and that path is filmmaking.

Fortunately, I have incredibly talented industry people involved in this project who have  not only encouraged me to turn my latest script into a short film,  but have also pulled all of their resources together to help me make it. Something that would otherwise cost upwards of 10k, is being made possible for significantly less thanks to a group of friends who unrelentlessly believe in my talent. Without getting into specifics , I have production companies excited to see the finished product, with the potential to invest and turn it into a full length feature.

I ask that you donate as much or as little as you can ($5, $20, $100). Anything helps and is greatly appreciated. We are mostly self funded but still need to come up with at least $2500 by August 15th.  We are happy to offer an executive producer credit, invitations to all the film festivals it is accepted to, an invitation to the wrap party at NYC's Mr. Wu's Basement, a free training session with celebrity coach Kai Braden,  a free professional photoshoot, and many other cool perks (especially if you're interested in a carreer in entertainment), depending on the size of the donation.

ONE is the story of a young woman who moves to the city for unkown reasons. Upon her arrival, she becomes involved with an intriguing couple she meets at a bar. As she embarks in a journey of passion and self discovery, she ultimately unravels the truth about each other's delusions of love and identity.

There you have it.

Love,

Penelope
