I don't believe that things happen by chance. Sometimes bad things happen for a reason. And I have learned sometimes the hard way to leave things in God's hands. "Greater is he that is in me, than he that is in the world.”
On the 21 of July, I received a text from my neighbor saying "help I have fallen in the backyard and I can't get up." I ran to the back to see her on the ground with the lawnmower still running. With the gate padlock, I didn't think twice and jumped over the 6-foot fence. In the process of landing, I fractured both bones in my leg. We were both transported to the hospital via ambulance. My neighbor was discharged later that night. I, on the other hand, wasn't that lucky. My fractured leg was so unstable I needed to be transported an hour and a half away to UNC Chappel Hill to have emergency surgery. There they placed pins in my leg to stabilize the fracture. After a week of waiting for the swelling to go down, I needed another surgery. I decided to post the x-ray to show the hardware I now have in my right leg. It was only a couple of days later I was discharged home. Since then I have been receiving occupational therapy weekly and trying to heal. At my follow-up appointment, I was told I wouldn't return to work until January next year.
I believe that sometimes people have to be shown that there are still good people out there ready to help thy neighbor. I know I am not the only one. I still have faith, but sometimes many people lose that. We are all connected and I appreciate the neighbors that helped lift me in my wheelchair to get into my house, cut my grass, cooked many meals for me and my family. On a personal note, I want to thank my wife for taking care of me while I heal. Lastly, I want to thank you for giving if this story has given you hope or has touched you. I appreciate your gift.
