On the job training for teens

Donation protected
Out of darkness, they say the brightest stars are born. It is within ourselves that we must seek the healing of the light; we must look to our creative pleasures to save us. Our sole mission is to create; love and beauty that is. Bullying in my youth led me to a history of, “please just love me”, “please make me feel something” relationships and behaviors, wherein I would do anything to feel the one thing that only you can give yourself. Love, and love is light. Find the light and you will have a never ending source to fill yourself and then expand out to the rest of life. If it weren’t for a sewing machine that a dear friend convinced me to purchase, I never would have made it out of this cycle of self destruction and I never would’ve woken to the truth that creation is life. To create is to allow your soul to freely speak; to perform as it wishes, to communicate itself in a way that words will never be able to. My mission is to foster a creative space which allows young individuals to explore their passions and build tangible craftsmanship and character development skills.

My name is Shannon Buckley and I have been a professional face painter for 3 years.  Face painting is a viable business in the event services industry. Parents, event planners, corporations, sports teams and more hire face painters to entertain children at events. Face painters are often present at birthday parties, corporate picnics, holiday parties, fairs and so many different types of events! I have been preparing myself to move to California since 2006 and my career as a face painter gave me the courage to make this move in 2016!

I live in Los Angeles, CA. I need your help to obtain the equipment to create an additional marketing channel and opportunity for teens to have on the job training while serving the community through creative connection at community markets.  This equipment will allow the face painting business to be present at up to 4 markets at once and will create a professional, safe and efficient presentation of our face painting business at markets. Farmers markets are a great environment for small businesses to grow organically and for individuals to connect. I am stepping into a greater role beyond creating art myself, to providing opportunities for teens to participate in this fantastic business with the intention of building leadership, business and artistic skills.

The network of face painters I am connected to and the Los Angeles community have given me so much in a short period of time and I want to share this value with others!  I currently have face painting booths at 3 markets. The purpose of being at these events is to provide opportunities for teens to experience on the job training as customer service oriented face painters. With my passion for serving the adolescent group, my face painting experience and growing presence at farmers markets, I am the perfect person to create this. In order to have face painting booths at several markets, we need some equipment and a vehicle to transport and store the equipment.

These are the proposed costs of improving our presence at existing markets and expanding to more where teens will have the opportunity to experience on the job training as a customer service oriented face painters. This equipment is reserved for markets only, artists who become qualified for private bookings will be required to purchase their own chair, stool and craft n go in additional to professional kit.
