Dear Friends and Community,
****. Kaitlyn , daughter of Susie Kiklas - Bowles
and Jim Bowles. ****
As many of you know, Kaitlyn has suffered from severe migraines for many years.
After a 5 day long migraine, her mom, Susan, took her to the Emergency Room. They gave her the usual “cocktail” to subdue the intense migraine. The next day (July 19, 2021), they went back again as it never went away, and only got worse. Kaitlyn was disoriented, seeing auras, and her right arm/hand was weak- all symptoms that they thought were related to the migraine. She told the doctor what she was feeling, so he decided to be conservative and ordered an MRI. He was confident that the results would be normal; however, it was anything but that…
We were all just as shocked as they were to discover that she had suffered from multiple strokes throughout both the left and right hemispheres of her brain. They were told that this is extremely uncommon for a healthy, vibrant, 21 year old girl. The doctors immediately admitted her and all the testing quickly began.
As of today, they are moving forward with countless tests in an effort to find the source of the strokes. It has been determined that she has suffered a blood clot *somewhere* that travelled to her brain and caused “stroke showers.” It is still undetermined as to the type of stroke- embolic or thrombotic, even more uncommon for a 21 year old.
She is, and will be doing, MRI’s, MRA’s, MRV’s, contrast testing, a transesophageal echocardiogram, and lots of blood work. She is feeling better; however, the out of pocket expenses will be a lot due to the fact that some of these tests are out of network.
Kaitlyn is a very compassionate and hardworking student. She is attending nursing school, the perfect fit for someone with her passion and kindness towards helping others. I am hoping that as a community, we can all come together to help this family.
Coach Bowles has been a tremendous coach, mentor, big brother, and friend to so many in our community. They have worked tirelessly to fundraise for the community and did anything to support our children. Please consider helping in any way. Some of the testing will be out of network and not covered. Please share this along to reach friends, alumni, and baseball family.
Thanking you in advance!
