Last year, it all started when Oliver and I took a simple shopping trip to Target. He heard a bell ringing and asked "what was that?" It was a volunteer collecting donations in the Salvation Army kettle. Oliver had a lot of questions about who rings the bell, why people do it, and more importantly what the money was used for. Not much was said after the discussion that morning, but I could tell Ollie was intrigued and the wheels in his head were a churning. He went on throughout the day playing and not mentioning the bell again. That was until the next morning...
Ollie got up early and grabbed his UNO Hockey bell and found a small basket in the laundry room. He asked to go to the local family owned grocery store- Vine Street Market. One of his biggest fans and helpers -his cousin Laycee Josoff -assisted him and together they started ringing the cowbell on that cold, blistery Sunday in December. The sound of that clanking bell went on for over four hours.
Ollie wanted all kids in need -big and small to have presents to open on CHRISTMAS. He told me multiple times that God wants him to do this and it's nice to help Santa. The amazing, loyal people of Yutan and Mead would drive by those two little bell ringers and drop a donation into the basket. It started spreading on social media and over the next few days Ollie and Laycee were getting donations from all over the U.S.
Last year Ollie raised over $6,000 from generous people like you. He also received donations from the top educational toy store- Fat Brain Toys and Knowledge Universe . Over 250 kids in Nebraska were given at least 2 to 3 presents each.
This year we will be having Ollie's Mission event Sunday, December 6th from 12noon-4pm @ the Yutan Fire Hall. Please come join in the holiday festivities and see Santa if you can. Ollie is determined to help more children this year! Many of you have asked how to donate to his mission. If you would like to contribute in time, resources, and /or prayer please let me know! If you have a family/ children in need please let us know that as well!
Ollie will be escorted by many friends and family members helping pick the perfect gifts for those families/kids in need on Sunday, Dec. 13th. The Yutan Fire Department will be transporting the presents and Ollie once again. We just love them!
Although we have seen a decline in Ollieman these past 6 mths cognitively and physically his loving heart remains the same. He is looking foward to this time of year again of giving and feels he is doing something for the greater good.
