A message from Jessica and Kevin:

Our son Oliver was born July 5th 2013, a healthy baby and our first child. He is and always has been incredibly intelligent and caring for a boy of his age. His true passions were always music, reading and family. As Oliver grew, we started to notice subtle differences between him and other children his age. No parent wants to think of their child as "atypical" but it was in the interest of Oliver’s wellbeing that we decided to have him tested. Our journey led us to CPRI, an agency that aids in the assessment, treatment and education of families with special needs children. Oliver's behaviours became more concerning when he began hitting himself combined with his increasing social isolation and communication difficulties. After the long process of interviews and examinations, Oliver was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at the young age of 3. Suddenly we were thrown into therapies, psychological appointments, meetings with the school board and trying to fit in a little normalcy for our now two young boys. We then came across a possible treatment that could change everything for us. It is called IFN, the Institute of Functional Neuroscience. Without going into too much detail, neuroscientists are discovering ASD is presenting itself as one half of the brain being hypoactive and the other hyperactive which makes it difficult for the two halves to exchange information and perceive the environment appropriately. "Once the nature of Oliver’s problem has been explored and understood, a strategy for normalizing brain activity is implemented using conservative, evidence-based, sensory, motor, auditory and visual stimulation techniques. These techniques are based on the brains natural ability to create new pathways based on the stimulation it is receiving." We have been very encouraged by the progress Oliver has already made with the few treatments he has completed but this type of treatment is not yet recognized by the current health care system in Canada. We are hoping that others able to help us with this financial burden would be encouraged by Oliver’s Story and support our cause. We, like all parents, want to be able to offer our son the best quality of life possible. We are greatly appreciative of any donation you are willing to give and thank you for your consideration.
