For Oliver in Memory of Meg

Two years ago my closest friend Chris McKee met the love of his life, Megan Usher. The two lit up around each other and I had never seen him happier. She was kind and caring and full of a rare joy and energy that made everyone around her smile.

Soon they were seeing each other every week and before long fell in love. Together they adopted a dog, Cooper, who looks like a fox. He was skidish at first, a simple glance would send him darting around the room in a blur of fluff and fuzz. Within a week he was sitting in Chris' lap and jumping on Meg.

Chris moved to Virginia for work while Meg finished her Master's degree in Early Childhood Education. They chose an apartment together and as soon as Meg completed school they began living together. Chris would surprise her by leaving notes and other tokens around the apartment. The apartment was filled with music, you could tell two people were begining a life together there. Schools fought over Meg, she found students she loved and they loved her back.

Another dog! This one, named Lola, was shy too. To me, Lola looked like some sort of bat creature. To Meg, Lola was the most adorable pet on the planet.

Nine months ago Meg and Chris found out they were expecting a baby and couldn't have been more excited. The day Meg found out, she placed a hamburger bun in the oven. When Chris came home she led him over to the oven and proudly exclaimed, "There's a bun in the oven!".

On Saturday March 19th, 2016 they were married in a beautiful little church. The reception was loud and joyous. Meg made sure to smear an entire piece of cake over Chris' face.

The next months passed quickly, Oliver was ready to see the world and they couldn't have been more excited to meet their baby boy.

On Saturday May 28th, 2016 Meg passed away shortly after giving birth to their son Oliver. He was born handsome, 6lb 6oz, happy, and healthy.

I can not tell you the pain that family and friends are feeling right now, it is not quantifiable by any number of words. Anything a poet could write is only an approximation. What I can tell you is that Oliver lost his mother, Chris gained a son and lost the love of his life, and the world lost a kind and caring soul that day.

Chris and Oliver need your support. There are diapers to be changed, formula to be mixed, and Oliver's future to be thought of. Every dollar will go towards supplies for Oliver as he grows as well as an education fund for his future.

Thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
