Oliver was born at Texas Children's Hospital (TCH) in Houston, TX where he received immediate intervention to keep him breathing on his own. He spent 10 days in the NICU recovering from his first he cath procedure and then was discharged home. In his 6th week of life, he was medi-vac'd back to Houston for an emergency second cath procedure to increase his oxygen levels and spent a week in CVICU with complications that will need monitoring weekly by his cardiologist at TCH.
The first of many open heart surgeries will hopefully be many months down the road.

After three long years of heartbreaking miscarriages, Brian and Stephanie almost gave up growing their little family. Then their little miracle, Oliver, came to being. At his 22wk scan, they were given the news that Oliver's heart and organs weren't formed correctly and their world felt like it was crumbling down around them.
They know he will be "failure to thrive" after birth without immediate palliative & corrective care. It was strongly recommended that a month before his expected arrival, they relocate near a hospital that can provide the medical intervention necessary to help Oliver stay with them on this Earth. That means searching for temporary housing, transportation costs, hospital, and medical costs have to be greatly considered. They don't know how long it will be for; some say as few as 3-4 months if everything is best case scenario. Some say up to 9 months if complications arise.
As they search for the best team to care of Oliver, Brian and Stephanie know preparing for this great new unknown in their lives will not be without difficulty: physically, mentally, and spiritually. The compassion and support of loved ones and other families who are going through something similar have given them hope that this is not the end, but the beginning of an even great journey for their family.
