It was about four years ago when we realized what was happening. Oliver Davidson, the goofy, kind hearted, self described nerd, became another member of the heroin epidemic.

The next few years were a blur of rehab, hope, and relapse. Rinse and repeat. When he was doing well, he was doing so well. When he slipped, our heart sank every time the phone rang because we knew the call was bound to come.

On February 1, we got the call. The police knocked on his mother’s door at 5 am and told her that her son had died in a treatment center. He overdosed and died at the age of 22. Exactly one week later his son, Gavin, was born.

This crowdfunding isn’t for his funeral, family, or even for his son. This is for those like him. This is to help people receive the help they desperately want and to help keep them alive until they decide they want that help.

As regular citizens the best thing we can do for those struggling with addiction is to provide harm reduction education and supplies and to assist those wanting help with finding affordable and accessible treatment.

All donations on a will go directly to Freeman Recovery Center in Dickson, TN and to help provide Narcan and other harm reduction techniques to active addicts.

It is so easy to just look away. It’s too easy to say that this won’t happen to my child. Never say never. This epidemic has impacted you or someone you know. We never thought that our smart, sweet natured, kind, little boy would fall victim to this. But he did. And now we’re heartsick and broken. Making sure that we prevent this from happening to another family is one of the ways we can start to put ourselves back together again.

Help us help those who need it. They are loved. They matter. And when they’re ready, they shouldn’t have to fight lack of access and financial restraints to get well.
