Olive's Cancer Treatment

Donation protected
As many of you know, we recently received the terrible news that our beloved Olive has bone cancer.  While we have pursued various pain management strategies, they are no longer working. Olive's pain has increased significantly in the past few days because the affected bone has fractured.  X-rays and blood tests performed today indicate that the cancer has NOT spread and she is otherwise a very healthy 9 year old dog.  Under the circumstances, Olive's oncologist urges us to amputate.  Amputation is obviously radical treatment, but according to Dr. Baez, once Olive recovers, her pain will be eliminated.  In addition, the surgery could extend her life by as much as 18 months.  Olive is clearly able to handle being a three-legged dog -- she hasn't put weight on her right front leg for several weeks but she's been getting around nonetheless.

Unfortunately, the cost of amputation is prohibitive (e.g., the  surgery plus post-operative care could run more than $5k).  We have never done anything like this before but are reaching out now to ask for help.   For us, this is about karma.  We know that we'll be able to give back at some point in the future but right now we could really use some support.  Thanks for anything you might contribute.  We will keep you all posted.

Thank you just for thinking of Olive;  every good wish matters and helps to sustain her.

XOXO
