Oliver hasn’t been himself lately. He became really picky with food and started eating less, as well as became distant- if you follow his instagram you know he loves laying on mommy 24/7 and food lol. 2 red flags which had me so worried. At first, the vet i saw for his initial appointment noted some inflammation/ gingivitis but didnt think it looked bad enough to cause him to stop eating as she has seen worse cases in cats that still eat, so we thought it might be an abdominal issue, maybe even a stomach ulcer. We tried a short course of medication to soothe that ulcer(sulcrate), along with anti-nausea meds and an appetite stimulant, but none made a difference. I did more research and requested we also ran a pancreatic blood panel, which came back normal. I requested to try him on a pain medication and then next step was recommended to be an abdominal ultrasound. The pain medication was the turning point because he started eating and finishing his meals again and got his personality back. I got oliver in for a second exam to look at his mouth more in-depth just to explore this inflammation before i spend 1k on an ultrasound. When his right side gums were pressed, he reacted in pain/was uncomfortable vs when she touched the left there was no reaction. Of course, the pain medicine could be soothing pain thats coming from anywhere in his body - the vet even noted that pancreatitis bloodwork isnt always 100% reliable so it cant be ruled out BUT considering his symptoms line up most with dental pain we have decided to treat as such. he’s going to need a dental x-ray, cleaning, and possibly an extraction. The estimated cost for the dental x-ray and cleaning alone is $1,151. If extractions are needed, it will be between $2,518–$3,079. I basically need to have 3k readily available on oct 1. I am setting the goal to the lowest cost because i dont want to take donations i might not need- the $1151 is a for sure number. Thank you for all the love and support it means so much as this was super unexpected (as all vet bills are i know) and i've spent nearly 1k the past 2 weeks just on vet appointments and medication. Thank you for loving oli !!
