Old Well Motel & Grill - Fire Relief - For Kaffers

Donation protected

The Old Well Motel & Grill in Drytown suffered a horrible loss in the form of a devastating fire on July 8th, 2020 destroying roughly half of its motel cabins, and significant portions of the property the motel and grill reside upon. This has put at risk not only the livelihood of the people who stay there, but also the dear Kaffer family who operate the Old Well.  If any of you have stayed there or had a bite to eat at the Grill, you will know how special the Old Well is.

There really aren't words to do justice to how extraordinary of a place the Old Well is, and how much at risk it is now of closing forever.  Such a closing would be a tremendous loss to the community, as well as to the wonderful family that have made the place it is, unlike any other, in the hearts and minds of so many.

For 60 years the Kaffer Family, as sole proprietors of the The Old Well Motel & Grill, have bestowed their family love, their home, and their hospitality on everyone and anyone who has ventured into their corner of Amador County.

The Old Well is not only a place of history, but a place of all we could ever want the future to be.  It not only makes up countless forever cherished memories in all of the generations of guests / patrons / friends who have frequented this establishment, but to this day - this place - remains a cornerstone of its community providing a haven for families to meet, to dine, to enjoy time with one another, and a place for many to call home.

Marylou’s homemade pies, her smiles, Eddie’s delicious breakfasts, lunches, dinners, old fashioned milkshakes, and his jokes are always more than a meal, they are tradition, they are what America itself is made of. Without exaggeration - to let the Old Well die, would be to let die what makes up the essence of the social fabric that binds our nation together.  None of us can afford to let that happen, and the reality is we not only have it in our power to make sure it does not happen, you with what you give to this campaign - may likely be the biggest decider of whether this place stays alive, or forever goes.

Given how much the Kaffer family and Old Well have provided to the surrounding community for more than half a century, never once asking for anything in return, making a donation of any size you can afford to do here to help them recover from this horrible incident, and allow to them to keep filling tummies and warming the souls of all who stop by to experience the magic that is Kaffer hospitality.

They have touched the lives of countless people over their stewardship of Drytown, and now it is our turn - the past and future recipients of their bottomless love - to touch the lives of the Kaffers themselves - with a donation representing a small token of gratitude, as prayer, as what can do to keep them doing what they do for as long as they possibly can.

With every ounce of appreciation that my being can muster up, thank you for any level of contribution you can make.  100% of what you donate will go directly to the Kaffer Family in support of restoration of the Old Well Motel & Grill, and the Kaffer’s.  God bless you, god bless the Old Well, god bless the Kaffer Family.  Thank you.
