Caring for Kian
Donation protected
I am raising money to help Kian, a wonderful little boy who is undergoing an extraordinary journey in his fight against cancer. My aim is to raise £1000 towards his treatment by asking for sponsorship from my family and friends as I have decided to shave my head on Friday 27th March.
Doctors have told my dear friend Kat there is an 80% chance that an aggressive and rare form of cancer which almost killed her son Kian a year ago will return.
She has managed to raise £100,000 towards £500,000 needed for established “relapse” treatment, should the cancer return.
But now she has been offered the chance to send the two-year-old for a new trial treatment, which could prevent a relapse ever happening in the first place - but it costs £140,000.
Kat knows there is a possibility the new treatment might not work, but says it is a risk she’s prepared to take.
The new trial treatment - called DFMO - aims to prevent the cancer returning by stopping a certain cell that creates the neuroblastoma cell. But it has to be started no later than 120 days after the patient has undergone their last bout of immunotherapy. And Kian’s immunotherapy treatment finished 91 days ago leaving Kat with less than a month to apply.
You can find more information via Kat's 'Caring for Kian' Facebook page.
