Officine dell'Acqua nasce dalla passione per la tradizione e la cultura legate all’acqua, elemento di aggregazione sociale e motore economico del territorio. Negli ultimi decenni, purtroppo, le antiche tradizioni, i mestieri e il sapere legati a questo prezioso elemento si stanno dissolvendo.

Officine dell'Acqua desidera conservarne la memoria e trasmetterla ai giovani con attività, esposizioni, didattica e formazione.

 

L'imponente progetto di rigenerazione urbana degli ex magazzini delle Ferrovie Nord è stato studiato in modo da poter rendere fruibili gli ampi spazi con una progettualità modulare, consentendo l’inizio delle attività in tempi brevi grazie alla riapertura progressiva dei singoli volumi in corso di ristrutturazione.

 

Abbiamo bisogno di voi per poter eseguire il primo importante passo: l’opera di ristrutturazione e messa in sicurezza degli spazi e l'apertura del piano terra (250 mq) dove sarà ubicato il laboratorio per le attività didattiche. Chi meglio delle nuove generazioni, dai bambini ai giovani prossimi ad interfacciarsi con il mondo del lavoro, rappresenta migliore pubblico per questo ambizioso quanto innovativo progetto? L'avvicinamento al legno e al rispetto delle piante, l'educazione ambientale e all'acqua, gli anziani maestri d’ascia ed i giovani apprendisti, saranno attivi protagonisti e destinatari delle attività sociali e culturali delle Officine dell’Acqua.

 

Il pavimento del laboratorio, ottenuto mediante la riattivazione della fiera locale del legno e la partecipazione di volontari guidati da una squadra di carpentieri professionisti, diventerà memoria tangibile dell’aiuto e della solidarietà di quanti vorranno contribuire a salvare questo patrimonio. Le singole tavole in legno, lavorate in loco e serigrafate con il nome di chi ci aiuterà, rivestiranno come un tempo l'intera area, divenendo inizio del sogno.

Would you like to help us save nautical and marine traditions from fading into oblivion, ensuring that this precious body of knowledge is passed on?

 

The mission of Officine dell’Acqua (OdA), a newly born museum and cultural center for nautical and marine traditions, is to salvage, safeguard and promote this heritage, a defining part of our identity, and to ensure that it is transmitted to the next generations. Your help is crucial if we are to succeed.

 

Educational programs are a core component of OdA’s activity, ensuring that crafts and skills that shaped maritime history are not lost. Your contribution will allow us to move forward with the setup of the workshop where the practical part of the courses will be held.

 

OdA is housed in the former warehouses of a lakefront railway station that served as the link between land and water on Lago Maggiore, Italy. Through volunteer work and donations we were able to open the office and one of five sections on July 4th. Now we are working on the second section, the workshop for the courses, a priority, and your help is vital.

 

We are already offering courses on wooden boat restoration in a makeshift workshop in our boatyard, and sailing courses for Gaff and Lateen rigs; courses on wooden boat building (accepted as credits by the University of Genova for aspiring shipwrights) as well as acquaticity (a person’s ability to function and be comfortable in the water) are planned for next year.

 

The floor of the workshop where the practical part of the courses will be held will be in wooden planks, bought with contribution of patrons and to be installed by volunteers under the supervision of professional carpenters. Each plank will be engraved with the name of donors whose generosity will make this endeavor possible.

 

Traditions are the history that have shaped the modern world as we know it, they are the DNA of today’s society, and water has been one of the principal factors of where and how these evolved. Let’s not lose this valuable part of our heritage, we can preserve it, with your help.

 

The complex where OdA is situated is comprised of five sections, two warehouses of two floors and a tensiostructure. The overall renovation project is structured so as to open the sections one by one and make them available as the renovation proceeds. The workshop is next in line, and your contribution can make this possible.
