BEFORE VANDALISM
NOW
Dayton Police Officer Steve Whalen was killed in the line of duty in 1991 during a traffic stop on Xenia Avenue. The driver opened fire with an AR-15 rifle from the rear window of a truck killing Officer Whalen instantly.
Officer Whalen was a true community police officer, helping many people even on his time off. Officer Whalen was beloved by those who were lucky enough to know him.
To honor the slain officer, the former Hamilton-Wyoming Connector was renamed Steve Whalen Boulevard in 1992. In 2014 a mural, painted by local students with Whalen’s likeness and positive messages, was dedicated along the boulevard. 2014 Mural Dedication
Unfortunately, during the recent public unrest, Officer Whalen's mural was vandalized with graffiti. The entire wall was repainted with profanity, death threats, and Officer Whalen's face was covered over with an image of a pig. A deep wound to the community where Officer Whalen served.

We want to reclaim the mural in memory of Officer Whalen, and for all of those who seek selfless-service.
We need to raise $5000 to have Officer Whalen's Memorial Mural redone in a way worthy of his sacrifice. Contributions of any amount are much appreciated.
