Yoga Therapeutics Fundraiser for Ashley

Donation protected
Ashley and Kelly were awarded a grant last year to practice therapeutic yoga, but it runs out at the end of April. Help fund them for the future; cultivating change and growth within their communities.

Ashley Volion is a Disability activist, research assistant, and first year Ph.D. Student at the University of Illinois at Chicago in Disability Studies:
"As a woman with Cerebral Palsy, yoga has taught me how to connect with and love my body and mind as one whole entity. It has taught me to listen to what my body has to say and to be compassionate with myself. Yoga has also lessened my anxiety, allowed me to be more creative, and has opened new doors for myself. I am learning new things about myself everyday, and with your help I hope to continue on this journey of self discovery."

Kelly Haas is a full time, therapeutic and alignment based yoga teacher with over a decade's teaching experience, and the opportunity to have traveled, taught, and studied with thousands of students:
"Making my home base in New Orleans in 2012 has opened the opportunity for me to serve our community through public yoga classes, as well as private sessions. Through private sessions with clients such as Ashley, I am honing in on how to make the practice of yoga asana and breath work accessible to all beings. This is my great passion! I have dedicated myself to yoga as an integrative, holisitic practice to facilitate our own healing and growth."

Kelly and Ashley currently meet for 2 hour long sessions per week. Kelly has offered to provide private yoga instruction to Ashley at a reduced rate of $50 per session for the next year (her full rate is $100/session).  Ashley was only able to commit to this practice through a generous year long grant from the Chanda Plan Foundation (http://www.thechandaplanfoundation.org/) that runs out at the end of April.  They have agreed that any amount earned above their goal of $5,000 will go towards providing accessible yoga services to other individuals.  Ashley has experienced more noteable physical, mental, and emotional gain from her practice with Kelly. In order for her to continue through this next year cultivating change and growth with Kelly, she needs your help.  By donating, you are contributing to Ashley's well-being, and also to Kelly's further education into yoga therapies and how to make yoga accessible to all beings. Both of these amazing women wish to serve their respective communities as best they can, but to do so, they need your help.

In the video: A woman with dark brown shoulder-length hair wearing a red shirt and grey sweat pants sits cross-legged on the floor in a bright blue room. "Hi I'm Ashley Volion and I have cerebral palsy. After being discharged multiple times from physical therapy, I just wanted to disconnect from my body. I was angry and disappointed. I didn't really know where to go or what to do. So I came to yoga. I wasn't really expected a lot. I tried therapeutics before and nothing really honestly helped me, but I came and I enjoyed myself and I started coming back regularly. Then in February 2012 i found the Chanda Plan Foundation. The Chanda Plan Foundation gives grants to people with disabilities to assist them in getting and obtaining alternative therapeutics, which allowed me to get two private sessions per week with Kelly Haas for a year. It wasn't until I started yoga that I felt completely at home in my body. However, our grant will end at the end of april of this year. So I'm sitting here, which is a new thing for me, I'm sitting here asking you all to help me out in my journey. I'd like to continue on this path of embracing and enlightening and I think through this I can not only help my personal self grow, but I can truly be the scholar and the activist that I want to be." Kelly Haas, a woman with short curly blonde hair wearing a teal shirt and black sweatpants kneels next to Ashley, says, "and I know that with your help we can continue the journey. It is so inspiring for me to watch Ashley's progress and her transformation and her growth from week to week and it's something that we wish to continue so please consider helping."
