Costa Rica Design Abroad course breakdown: http://blog.ocad.ca/wordpress/designabroad/faqs/
To start I am so humbled to be 1 of the 16 students chosen to participate in this once in a lifetime learning experience. As I am just one student trying to expand my knowledge in the social innovation area of design and help make a long lasting, meaningful impact.
My name is Octavio Caceres
and I've been working on my thesis for the past 7 months on the racial diversity and identity of Latinx's in the GTA, so I feel like being able to go to Costa Rica I will be able to connect with the people on a different level.
I introduce myself as a graphic designer but I like to think of myself more as a creative problem solver as well as a storyteller. Fuelled by
my passion to communicate and develop new interesting ideas through creativity, I can't wait to take on this new challenge at hand.
What I hope to bring to the Costa Rica: Design Abroad
program is an alternative perspective through research on other systems that are successful around the world and looking how we would be able to apply that to El Cocal's situation. I am especially excited to work with the Costa Rican community as I am looking forward to collaborate with those who are experiencing the problems themselves, rather than 'outsiders' coming in their country and trying to change their system. What I plan to gain from this experience?
Gain perspective (Culture, Environment)
Inspire my own work and creativity
Connect with nature
I believe this is a one in a lifetime opportunity to experience travel, culture, collaboration with amazing people while all contributing to a positive social impact.
Funds will first go towards total tuition ($1500
) then other expenses if applicable.
All donations will be contributing to my Bachelor of Design degree from OCAD University.Thank you so much!!
