As many of you know Ocracoke School was devastated by hurricane Dorian. This impacted all aspects of school life including all the sports programs. The gym was flooded and access to the island is completely cut off so visiting teams cannot come to play soccer or other outdoor sports.
Our middle school soccer season was over before it even began. As coach of the team, I thought it was important that we play at least one game and I documented our adventure on Facebook. The response to that journey was humbling. We received so much support and encouragement along the way as we trekked to Manteo Middle School to play our game. One of the issues we had was the loss of uniforms. When we returned home at midnight, several uniforms had to go in the wash so the high school team could use them the next day.
At Manteo, an anonymous donor, handed me a envelope with cash enclosed to go towards purchasing new uniforms. People started asking how they could help so we decided this will be the best way to allow people to help us. We're going to use the proceeds for new uniforms and expenses related to having to play all our future sports games away, such as overnight motel stays, meals and added costs.
The athletic boosters help with these expenditures and can best allocate these funds to where they will have the greatest impact.
Thank you so much for your support!
