Occupy Broadway March

Region Women in Action is a community focused service group started by four young women of color in Northwest Indiana who have decided enough is enough. Growing up, the four of us lived through the heartbreaking murders of Trayvon Martin, Sandra Bland, Philando Castile, Mike Brown, Eric Garner, and Tamir Rice. We watched the justice system fail each and every one of these innocent people, and we could do nothing but sit back and accept it. We felt hopeless. It seemed as though Black people and other people of color would never receive justice for the heinous crimes committed against them by the same people who swear to serve and protect them. Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and George Floyd were the tip of the iceberg. We, along with the rest of the world, watched that officer drain George Floyd’s life right out of his body without an ounce of remorse or fear of repercussions. We were disturbed to the core and actively searched for ways to join the cause and fight for what was right.
This has led us four young women to organize Occupy Broadway. Occupy Broadway is a peaceful march for Black lives and against police brutality. This march is the direct manifestation of the tremendous pain and overwhelming trauma we have endured for centuries as Black people. As of late, the Black community has gained many allies in this fight for justice and together our voices are powerful! On June 19, 2020 (the 155th anniversary of Juneteenth), all participants and donors of the Region Women in Action’s Occupy Broadway March will be catalysts for change. Not only for our community, but for America as a whole. We have the right to be heard, and they will hear us!
We are extremely grateful for all donations and appreciate every single person who believes in what we are doing and supports! As we anticipate a large turnout, we want to make sure each individual has the necessary supplies to ensure health and well-being as we march and have decided to put together "Protestor Packs." These will include hand sanitizer, first-aid kits, water, a small snack, etc. Your donation will go directly toward those on the frontline along with other equipment required for a march of this caliber. Leftover funds will be donated to youth and women organizations and small businesses in the area. Thank you so very much! None of this would be possible without you!
