Cindy's Cancer Survivor Fund

My name is Cynthia Winters. My friends call me Cindy and I am in dire need of your help. This year has been a very difficult period in my life. After serving 15 years at a job from which I expected to retire, I was let go in June, 2015. For the past year, I have desperately searched for another job. Having a job made it possible for me, as a single mother, to help cover the cost of my daughter's tuition. Unfortunately for my family, I was given the devastating news that I have lung cancer in March of this year. The news of my diagnosis had a profound and lasting effect on my small family. As a single mother, I am responsible for providing our primary source of income. While I have never stopped looking for a new job, undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments in April, 2016 and May, 2016 has effected my quality of life. This fact was especially impactful after I had surgery in June, 2016 to remove the upper quadrant of my right lung. Since that time, I was rushed back to the hospital from a rehabilitation center because I had developed blood clots in my legs and in both lungs. Just when I thought that I was on the road to recovery, regaining my strength and able to continue my job search, during the weekend of August 5, 2016 was readmitted into Loyola Medical Center with pneumonia. Because I have been hospitalized three consecutive times, my bills have gotten out of control. In the process of trying to manage my medical expenses, I have now exhausted my financial resources. While I was able to receive unemployment for the first six months of 2016, my unemployment benefits have now expired. While recovering my health is important, what truly worries me the most is how to cover all of my: medical expenses, living expenses and my daughter's tuition.
