Courtney's Kidney, see update!

Courtney is a 33 year old single mom to her 17 year old daughter. This fund is being set up to help offset medical bills and transportation costs in order for Courtney to be able to receive a kidney transplant. Courtney has been ill since 1999 when she was diagnosed with a rare blood blood disease.  She was hospitalized for over a month, in which time she had suffered a stroke and was placed in ICU on life support for 8 days. She was put in remission through months of plasma pheresis treatments (about 100 treatments).    Around mid 2001 her blood disease came out of remission and she underwent another year of plasma pheresis treatments and put in remission again. In 2003 Courtney was diagnosed with Lupus SLE, it was starting to affect her kidney function.  Her doctors were able to put the Lupus into a remission-like state with the use of IV chemotherapy and a maintenance dose in pill form after finishing the IV chemo. Courtney remained in remission until 2010 when the Lupus attacked her kidneys causing her to start dialysis. Courtney was being evaluated for the transplant list in 2012 when she had become hospitalized in YRMC for a month then tranfered to the Mayo Hospital in Phoenix for over 4 months. During her stay she had several trips to the Intensive and Critical Care units, was put in an induced coma, then had additional complications causing her to be put on  life support several times.

After months of being in a hospital bed and losing nearly all muscle tone, with what muscle tone left atrophying, and down to only 80 pounds, Courtney had to go through months of physical therapy to build muscle and to learn to walk again.  

Today, Courtney is still on dialysis 3 times a week and has been approved for the transplant list. By the grace of God and kindness of those who have donated thus far, Courtney has been able to follow through with all the procedures that were required of her from the transplant team.   Along with the medical/dental procedures, Courtney's doctors and transplant center is over 100 miles away at the Mayo Hospital in Scottsdale. This fund will help her and her mom (who will be her "caregiver" while recovering) with all of the required copays, deductables, traveling, lodging and meals for the transplant.
