A few weeks ago my mom started having lower back pain. She didn't think it was anything to worry about until the pain also started in her chest. She was also experiencing shortness of breath, nausea, and weakness. After changing some medications around and trying an array of different things she got a call from her family doctor asking her to come back in to discuss her blood work results. Proteins were high and the WBC and RBC were low. Along with a few other concerns she was sent to the Oncologist where they preformed a bone scan and more blood work. On March 3rd 2015 my mom was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma Cancer.
We are currently waiting on the bone marrow results to come back and then she will be sent to UAB for 2 weeks to receive a bone marrow transplant. She will also be starting chemo. She will be making multiple trips back to UAB for check ups along with trips to chemo sessions.
She will be out of work for at least a few months and my dad will be by her side taking care of her. They are going to accumulate a ton of bills throughout this journey and the last thing they need to stress about is finances at a time like this. Any donation would be greatly appreciated!!!
My mom is an amazing, strong, loving, caring, God fearing woman and my best friend. My parents have no idea I'm doing this for them, I want it to be a surprise!

July 10, 2015 ~ George and I thank you all so much for everything from, prayers, food, and donations to help ease the stress a person encounters with a , "You have Cancer" diagnosis. And your visits in person and encouraging texts messages have been so welcome and asweome. Many of you have experienced this first hand or with a family member or freind. When Emily set this up we had just found out and everything was spinning. She did surprise us and as you all know Mom's will eventually discover all best kept secrets.
I hope that I can help others with cancer and those with out how you can help. Right after the diagnosis, I wanted to get all the test over and get back to normal. Within two weeks I was being admitted into ICU for infection that my body could not fight. I was not give much time to live. But God had other ideas. I was moved directly to West Florida hospital ICU after two units of blood in crestview. From there I spent three days, I believe, as I can not recall much of this time period. I then was transfered to the Cancer floor. Due the 10 days I was in the hospital, Chemo was started and I had two vertibra repaired as they fractured. I could not walk and was in a lot of pain. The myeloma had weaked my spine to the point of breaking. I came home on April 1st! That is kinda funny! :)
During my first month home, I don't know what I would have done without my family and friends. Most of all my George!! He was and remains a rock, my best freind and wonderful husband.
I had no idea that over the years, I had sterotyped "Cancer", you get sick, lose your hair and lose wieght. Not always so, there are many, many types of cancer and each persons body is differenct. No two alike. I especially didn't know anything about bone cancer except it was bad. Remeber that old movie in the 70's (i think) where the young wife had bone cancer. The big song was, Sunshine in my eye's can make me cry, Sunshine on my shoulder's looks so lovely, Sunshine all the day....that's what I thought. I find that great stides and advances have been made!!
I was a stage 3 and the doctor wanted me immedialy on treatment. We meet with Dr. Salzman at UAB and she coordnated my treatment with Dr. Beg at 21st Century Oncology here in Crestview. As a side bar, I used to ride by there and say to George, wow I am glad we don't have to pull in there, now I go weekly for a Chemo Shot. Along with many pills I have been under this treatement since March. In the middle of August, I will stop these and travel to Birmingham on August 31st to check into UAB's BMT or Bone Marrow Transplant unit for a Stem Cell Transplant. I am my own donner! I have to travel to UAB two times before that for the final tests, another bone marrow bipsy, have a cathader placed in my chest and to collect my stem cells. Amazing! During all this time God has worked many details out and provided.
September 1, I will have a very large dose of Chemo injected and then the very next day, September 2, I will get my stem cells back! It will be a very hard 2-3 weeks in the hospital and then George and I will have to stay 2-3 weeks after that in Birmingham for daily clinic check ups to ensure the transplant is taking and my counts are going up. I expect that we will be there the month of September, maybe into October.
I wanted to share this as many are asking and if you could see me now, I look prety good. I am told I will lose my hair! What a scream, I will make sure Emily keeps you all updated along this journey. I am told too that I will be on a maintenance treatment for about two years. Not sure yet what that looks like.
Many ask what can I do or say, I don't know what to do. Just what has been done, PRAY for Total healing. Pray we can keep our insurance. Pray for my husband and children. George is my caretaker and it's hard on him. Call, text, send food when we return. Gas cards, and food gift cards will help George as all these expenses are on us. I was not able to return to work. We know that our Lord provides through friends and family. This world is about relationships and helping. There are many people in need. Please find your place to help. I encourage everyone who reads this to begin or think about giving to cancer research. So much has been done to help people but there is still a way to go to find the cure. Help cancer researchers find that cure!!
