The Chafins Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Hi Everyone!

My name is Nikki Flannery and I'm a close friend of The Chafin Family.  I wanted to set up this account for them to aid with the burden of the hospital bills they are going to be faced with.

Here's their story:
Stephanie and Adam found out in the fall of 2014 that they were expecting for a 3rd time.  Upon looking at the ultrasound, they discovered that they were not pregnant with one baby, but identical twin girls (Lorelai and Laynie)!!! They have 2 beautiful boys, Lincoln and Landon, so you can imagine their excitement about girls!  As Stephanie's pregnancy went on, it became apparent that these precious little girls were going to need to be monitored closely.

Here are some of the moments Stephanie has shared throughout her pregnancy.
"At my ultrasound on Monday we found out some not so great news. While Lorelai looks fabulous! Her growth is great and is right on track with her due date at 11.5 oz, our Laynie girl isn't growing quite like we would like. She's significantly smaller at only 8oz and we are a little concerned by it. She's about 25% smaller which the cut off is at 20%. She will get extra monitoring and tests at each ultrasound. But for the time being all we can do is pray! The good news is there is no evidence of twin to twin! But please keep out Laynie girl in your prayers"

"I love these girls so much it hurts! It's so hard worrying constantly if they are ok with all the possible complications that come with mono/di {identical} twins! But today their fluid levels are awesome, bladders, stomachs, and kidneys are working great! So no signs of twin to twin!! At least one relief. Laynie is still smaller but their cord blood flows are still good which is a very good thing. Next ultrasound is a growth scan where we will find out a lot more about Laynie's development. Will just continue to pray for best possible outcomes due to circumstances."

"I've debated posting this all day, but our Laynie is in need of some serious prayers. Today we found her cord is beginning to show absence of flow. This is very dangerous for her and for Lorelai since they share a blood supply. We've been given a pretty poor outcome for Laynie. But prayer and our God are more powerful and we have hope He can bring her through this. I'm 24 weeks Thursday and we are just hoping and praying they both hold on until 28 weeks. Been a very emotional day. But I can't thank all my wonderful family and friends who have sent us texts today. We feel your love and your prayers! You are all so amazing!!! I will have another ultrasound Thursday to monitor them and ensure their condition hasn't worsened."

Stephanie and the girls were able to hold on until 27 weeks and 4 days.  On March 3rd, Baby Lorelai came into the world weighing 2 lbs 2 oz and a minute later Laynie came into the world weighing 1 lb 8 oz.  Unfortunately, their lungs were not the best, but they were stable.

One short day later, on March 4th Laynie passed away.  They found out that she had esophageal atresia and a tracheal esophageal fistula.  Basically, due to her size and needing to be on a vent, it caused a hole in her stomach and free air to be in her abdomen and stomach.  It's a rare anomaly, but Laynie was one hell of a fighter til the very end.

The Chafin family has a long road ahead of them as they mourn the loss of sweet baby Laynie and continue to put up a fight with Lorelai.  Lorelai will be in the NICU for a while and any help you could provide the family would be appreciated!
