"The Orphans Next Door"

"And they feed, for the love of Allah, the poor, the orphan, and the captive..." [Soorah al-Insaan, 8]   

Assalamu Alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

The Campaign: As a teacher, I can't help but notice the number of children  within our community that are struggling to cope with the loss of a parent. The emotional toll that the sudden loss of a mother, father, or both parents can have on a family is unimaginable and these beautiful children will face many challenges as they grow.  They are indeed the weakest and often most neglected members of society, and that must change. It is no coincidence that Islam specifically calls us to help these children.

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "The best house among the Muslims is the house in which orphans are well treated. The worst house among the Muslims is the house in which orphans are ill treated. I and the guardian of the orphan will be in the Garden like that," indicating his two fingers*.

Typically the Muslims in our community are active in support of orphans overseas in the developing countries where the need is most dire and glaring. This is fantastic mashallah, but we also need to realize that these very services are missing within our communities. Allah commands us not only to help those whose need is clear but also those who suffer in silence. It is our responsibility to know the stories and struggles of our brothers and sisters in the local community, and to connect with the orphans next door.

With your help, we will assist those who are truly in need. We will start to shine a light upon the homes darkened by the loss of a beloved parent. The Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) said: 

"Whoever removes a worldly grief from a believer, Allah will remove from him one of the griefs of the Day of Judgement"

The Orphans Next Door is the first project in our initiatives. The project is designed to support the orphans within our communities, our Masjids, and our neighborhoods. There are few services for them, and their needs are often left unmet.


Logistics: Funds collected for The Orphans Next Door will be donated to 20 Orphans in the Northern Virginia Community (within 6 families). These orphans have been previously identified, but donors are welcome to email suggested beneficiaries to the email address provided.


Donations will go towards purchasing immediate needs such as:

-Food
-Clothing
-School Supplies
-Financial Assistance
-Tutoring
-Eid gift Packages
-Islamic Education
-Fun activities and outings for the kids

And much more!


Let us work together to remove some of the worldly griefs of these families. Help us put a smile on their faces, help us aid them, support them, nourish them, and develop a long-term relationship with them, be'ithnillah.



Who We Are: This initiative was started  by a group of sisters from the Northern Virginia community. We aim to remedy income inequality within our local community through our Islamic duty of charity. We strive to do this by connecting potential donors with the people and problems that need their help within our Islamic community. Too often, charitable donors struggle to connect with the real need that is present within our communities and neighborhoods. We hear heartbreaking stories about “A sister” who lost her job, or “a brother” who is unable to find child care, but often have no way of mobilizing resources to connect the people who want to help with those who need them. We attempt to solve this problem by bridging the knowledge gap and identifying good causes here at home, one initiative at a time inshallah.
