It's almost time for the 3rd Annual NYC Braille Challenge! With your help, we can plan a fun and memorable event while promoting braille literacy for our students! Braille literacy is an essential component of our students' academic and future success. Therefore, your help becomes even more important by encouraging our students to excel in their study of braille while developing a cameraderie with their peers throughout the city. This year we hope to send our finalists to the national Braille Challenge in Los Angeles, CA!

Educational Vision Services (EVS) is currently planning the 3rd Annual NYC Braille Challenge. EVS is an organization within the New York City Department of Education employing Teachers of the Visually Impaired, Orientation and Mobility Specialists, and Paraprofessionals. EVS supports students who are blind and visually impaired from ages 5 to 21 throughout the five boroughs.

What is the Braille Challenge?
The Braille Challenge® is a national program of the Braille Institute® hosted by regional schools and agencies that serve children who are blind and visually impaired. It is the only national braille literacy competition of its kind in the country, and is specifically designed to challenge and reward students who are blind for their study of braille. The categories of the competition include reading comprehension, writing speed and accuracy, proofreading, spelling, and reading tactile charts and graphs.

Your generosity will support all facets of our local event, from providing high tech prizes to sponsoring our award ceremony. This is an event our students and their families prepare for and look forward to all year. With your help, we can make this event a tremendous success!

All donations will provide the following for our participating students:

- Plaques and/or trophies for the award ceremony

- T-shirts
- Decorations
- Travel expenses for national qualifiers
