Louisa the Lionheart

Donation protected
Louisa the Lionheart was diagnosed with rare, high risk acute myeloid leukemia on June 19, 2019. She was 18 months old. She was immediately emergency transported from her home state of Alaska to
Missouri, to begin treatment. Louisa went through two one-month rounds of intense inpatient chemotherapy, followed by a bone marrow transplant. Louisa’s brave big sister was her bone marrow donor. Four months after transplant, the Hilbert family got the news that Louisa had relapsed. She was not strong enough for another transplant, so she began enrollment in one of the only treatment options available—a clinical trial in St Louis. After two months of salvage chemotherapy to kill the cancer in her cerebrospinal fluid, Louisa was eligible for the experimental trial, and started another round of treatment in April 2020. Louisa has endured nearly 200 days in inpatient stay, 55 doses of chemotherapy, more than 100 blood transfusions, and more than 50 sedated procedures and surgeries. Finally, the Hilbert family was able to return home to their home in Alaska in August 2020, after being out of state for 14 months. Louisa was in remission and they enjoyed a wonderful autumn, hiking, biking, spending time as a family.
Louisa relapsed for a second time November 5, 2020. She will need many prayers that the cancer will respond to chemotherapy and she will get back to remission. She will need another bone marrow transplant.
Funds raised will be used to help the Hilbert family with expenses related to treatment.
