The Red Ribbon Soiree is held annually by Hope Alliance Foundation to commemorate World AIDS Day. It is an evening that brings together newly HIV-diagnosed individuals and the larger LGBT community members to dialogue with medical and legal personnel on issues relating to Human Rights and HIV/AIDS
The evening provides attendees the opportunity to listen to stories of violence/abuse LGBT community members continually face as a result of their sexual orientation in addition to their HIV status. This event also provides the platform to discuss the various ways access to their human rights and health can be improved.
The soiree is attended by advocates, allies, community members, individuals from the Academia, Health and Legal field, the evening is climaxed with an open dialogue forum with the purpose of strengthening social inclusion of LGBT PLHIVs to promote community mobilization. To continue tackling HIV-AIDS-related stigma, a new advocacy strategy themed "My Life, My story" will be launched this year by the Hope Alliance Foundation Team. Invited guest present at the soiree will have the opportunity to receive a copy of a brochure with five life transforming stories of HIV positive LGBT community members who braced all odds to keep surviving while making an impact in their own little way among their networks.
The soiree always has special features such as poetry recitals, choral performances, networking, an exhibition of materials, free HIV testing and on-site counseling. Also, we remember we take a moment to remember those we have lost to HIV and also celebrate longtime survivors.
