My husband David has a life threatening illness, Aortic Dissection. Before his illness he was a very active athlete, Ironman, Coolangatta gold, Ocean swimmer ect. This condition has changed his life and the life of our family forever.
Very little is known about this condition and not many people have heard of it. It is often misdiagnosed and many die before they get help.
We were lucky, despite very little odds Dave survived. At the moment his condition is stable, this could change at any moment.
It is thought that it is genetic and the prognosis is our kids may have the gene.
Since his illness I have started doing Ironman triathlons after a retirement of 20 years. (my way of coping).
Together with a great bunch of survivors from all corners of the world we have started AORTIC WARRIORS. A web and facebook site to help survivors, carers and remember the ones who didn't make it.
I am the carers advocte for the group.
My dream is to raise money to help our cause off the ground by competing in the Port Macquarie Australian Ironman in May 2015.
I will be taking with me all the survivors who can not do such physical exersize anymore, many were triathlets, runners, and swimmers. I've taken them on 2 1/2 marathons and a 1/2 ironman in the last 2 years.
Now it's time for the big one!
