What is top surgery?
Top surgery is a surgical procedure to remove breast tissue (subcutaneous mastectomy).
Why do I need this surgery?
Evidence from numerous studies suggest that top surgery improves the quality of life for trans men and reduces the symptoms of gender dysphoria.
What is gender dysphoria?
Dysphoria is a feeling of dissatisfaction, anxiety, and restlessness. With gender dysphoria, the discomfort with your body can be so intense that it can interfere with your normal life, for instance at school or work or during social activities. For me it has interfered with my life on a debilitating level.
Why is it so expensive?
Where I live, this surgery is not fully covered by our health plan and not performed here. The wait lists are years long as well. I have chosen to go private so that I can do this and move on with my life, as this has already robbed years of my life.
