Stem Cell treatment for our Mom,
Hi, we would really appreciate your help to raise funds for our mom’s stem cell treatment.
Our mom, Janelle, has been living with an open wound on the bottom of her left foot for three years. She has been non-weight-bearing for most of this time. She has suffered through multiple infections and had four surgeries, but her wound has not healed.
Mom has lived with rheumatoid arthritis for over thirty years. RA is a chronic disease without a cure. Her compromised immune system and prolonged use of Prednisone along with other immunosuppressant medications makes it very difficult for her body to heal.
She has spent weeks using a wound vacuum and did Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for three months, to no success.
She was referred to Dr. Richard Jacoby, a podiatrist in Scottsdale, AZ. He has been using amniotic stem cell patches to heal chronic wounds with great success for the past ten years. All of his patients with open wounds have been successfully healed with this treatment. We are enthusiastic for our Mom to complete this treatment.
Her doctors believe this is the only option remaining for her other than amputation. Mom has been preparing for this treatment over the past few months with a strict no sugar, anti-inflammatory diet, and working to reduce the amount of prednisone she takes so the stem cell will be effective.
This treatment is very expensive, and insurance does not pay for Stem Cell treatments.
Please consider donating any amount towards funding her Stem cell treatments. The surgical treatments will be every other week until her wound is healed. The doctor estimates that each stem cell application will cost around $3,800. We believe the total cost for this treatment will be around $15,000.00
Mom has had 4 different surgical procedures on her foot, throughout November and December. She has received a couple of injections along with a few amniotic stem cell patches which have been very successful. What would have normally taken months to heal, happened over the course of eight weeks. The Stem Cell Treatments have been very successful. On January 15th the doctors harvested a 1 cm square patch of her skin, and 12 tubes of blood to grow a 4x5 cm graft of her own skin through a company called MyOwnSkin. The cost of this is unfortunately not covered by her insurance either. It takes 7-10 days to grow the skin graft in the Lab, so on Friday, January 24th she will go back for the application of the skin graft.
