Hello fellow animal lovers,

I'm Kiri, and my partner is Danu. Our adorable fur companion goes by the name Nova. Nova's journey into our lives is one of resilience and transformation. Rescued from a place where she endured confinement in a crate, receiving only the bare necessities for survival, Nova came to us at the tender age of 14 months, just before she would have been subjected to breeding.

The early days with Nova were nothing short of an adventure, to say the least. In the first two weeks, Nova's appetite was worryingly low, causing us considerable concern. Her weight stood at a mere 32 pounds. Some rescue dogs struggle to gain weight despite eating abundantly. To rule out any underlying issues, we conducted comprehensive blood work and examinations, and thankfully, everything appeared normal. With a mix of concern and hope, we persisted, holding onto the belief that Nova's weight would eventually improve.

True to our optimism, by the end of the second week, Nova's appetite began to flourish. Our once reserved fur companion transformed into a lively food enthusiast, earning her the endearing title of our "little food monster." From that moment forward, food became the cornerstone of her joyous existence. However, a mischievous phase ensued, and Nova started pilfering edibles from every nook and cranny, including items that were, regrettably, not meant for consumption (yes, even poop). This peculiar behavior led to her nickname, "Poopy."

This thieving escapade persisted for three weeks, but eventually, Nova grasped the security of her new home and the assurance that she would always be well-fed. The "Poopy" chapter of her life concluded, marking the end of her playful, yet peculiar, culinary exploration.

As Nova settled into her newfound security, she began to explore her surroundings, grappling with behavioral challenges as she adapted to her role in our family hierarchy. Over time, Nova's personality blossomed, and she discovered the joys of play, experiencing life beyond the confines of her previous crate.

Now, weighing a healthy 75 pounds, Nova spends her days keeping company with Danu's retired dad while we're at work. Her favorite pastime involves collecting an impressive array of sticks in our backyard. However, due to two torn ACLs, Nova can't indulge in long walks as she once did. The vet suspects these injuries may be genetic or stem from malnutrition during her puppyhood.

Nova recently underwent surgery for her left knee on January 29th. The good news is that the first surgery went well, and she's on the path to recovery. However, the journey is not over, as Nova is scheduled for a second surgery on her right knee in two months.

While we managed to secure financing for the first surgery, we find ourselves in need of assistance for the upcoming procedure. Your support would mean the world to us and contribute to the continued well-being and happiness of our beloved Nova, our cherished daughter with a soul as beautiful as her furry face. Please join us in helping Nova receive the care she deserves.

Thank you for considering being a part of Nova's journey.

Warm regards,
Kiri, Danu, and Nova
