Nursing with sound

I've been working as a nurse and a musician for 20 years and always kept the two separate but now I want to find a way to combine these skills.

I believe music and sound can have the most profound healing and therapeutic effect on all of us, especially those struggling physically and psychologically.

My goal is to become a professional sound therapist providing services both amongst the community and in private settings. I want to forge a financially viable career but also to be able to provide sound therapy as a free service for people who otherwise may not have access to it.

I'm very interested in working with those who have suffered from trauma - in particular with refugees and also children.  It's all still coming together as a plan so who knows if that is suitable but that's where I'd like to take it!

While training I will continue working as a nurse in the hospice and hopefully the two worlds of nursing and sound can combine to create something special during this time.

What is 'Sound Therapy?'
I've included some links at the bottom which probably explain it more succintly than me! There are some reseach articles included eg. how the use of singing bowls helped decrease agitation and improved sleep patterns amongst patients with dementia. It's such an integral part of our everyday lives that we often take it forgranted.

How can you support me?
1) Pure simple encouragement, no finances attached. Embarking upon this path of sound therapy is a big move for me, away from the norms and guidelines and critical timings of working as I was as the Plastic Trauma Coordinator in the Royal London Hospital.
Away from the guaranteed understanding and respect for a career in nursing to something a bit more off the wall and well... that is taking me courage to do, so any words of support and encouragement are greatly appreciated!

2) Financial - apart from the costs associated with the course, I have thus far been unable to buy the instruments I need to get training. They are very expensive but I know they need to be good quality to do the job right so I'm asking for money (aiming for £1000) to help me buy them.

Something for nothing?
Well, that's a bit how crowdfunding can feel instead here is a list of 'rewards' available to anyone who does wish to contribute to this venture.
