Nunu Ghee is a one of the most talented and resilient young women I have worked with in my 30 years of working with teens. It was impossible not to be pulled to the magnetic force of Nunu Ghee. I have a long story about how she became a part of my life. There is a longer one about how she ended up in her present situation.
She is brilliant, kind, magnetic, loving, and ethereal. She graduated from the high school I teach at (East High School in Madison, Wisconsin). She overcame many obstacles and when she should have been planning on where she would attend college, instead she was looking for a way to support herself and help her family.
She is a very talented rapper...circumstances landed her in Las Vegas where she had a vulnerable time. A monster entered her world and took over her life. As perpetrators of violence do, he took her self worth and molded it only around his love and approval.
After several incidents of abuse at the hands of this 'human' she ended up hospitalized with very dramatic injuries. I will share some information about this.
Her mother learned about the situation in a nightmarish manner. She was sent a picture of her daughter who had been badly beaten, but her location was unknown. Her mother flew to Las Vegas and found her at a hospital and brought her home to Madison, WI.
The trauma Nunu endured is gut wrenching. Her mother has taken two weeks off of work to be with her. She is experiencing a great deal of PTSD from the abuse. They need funds to support them while she heals. The medical expenses alone will be tens of thousands of dollars. The immediate concerns are paying rent, purchasing prescriptions (antibiotics for potential infections and items to assist her while her jaw is wired shut). Her mother will go back to work in a few weeks (Nunu is not ready for her to leave yet). Nunu will be unable to work for several months and will require much support to heal. Please help out however you are able. I am available to answer questions and I will refer them to Nunu as appropriate.
At this time we are looking for immediate funding to take care of primary needs. Many other avenues are being pursued.
Nunu was so thankful to be home and as soon as she felt able, she wanted to visit with all the children in her extended family. She said she is taking a break from them until she heals more because they didn't recognize her and were afraid to get close to her because of her injuries.
