Did you know that 1 in 6 struggle with infertility and 1 in 4 face a pregnancy loss? And did you know that preconception care has a positive impact on maternal and child health outcomes? Well, I certainly didn’t know any of that before I started my own journey... and I know I’m not alone! There is quite a gap when it comes to the available support and knowledge about preconception care and fertility. That’s why I’m starting Moon + Fig Fertility to support and educate people in their fertility journey. To do this, I’m getting the training needed to help and support my clients and community in the best possible way.
Why am I passionate about this?
My son Ambrose was still born this summer due to a chromosomal abnormality. This was my third loss, and I have struggled with infertility for more than two years. It’s been a lonely journey, especially when every doctor tells you that everything is fine and that “you have nothing to worry about”. I just didn’t have the support or knowledge that I needed throughout my journey. Through these experiences, I felt a calling to become a fertility coach and support practitioner (also called a fertility doula). I learned to understand how many things affect fertility but also how much we can do to maximize fertility with lifestyle changes and approaching fertility from a holistic point of view. This means that fertility involves much more than just biology and can be positively and negatively impacted by emotional and environmental aspects.
My experiences have put me on a mission to help people who menstruate get in tune with their cycles and teach them about possible causes that may influence fertility and how they can take control of it. I can coach them toward better lifestyle and nutritional choices that are scientifically proven to enhance fertility. My goal is to educate and empower them throughout their journey no matter if they are planning to conceive a baby and want to maximize the chances of conception, or if they are struggling with infertility. In addition, I also offer compassionate support if they have lost their baby.
I’m currently in the final stages of my first certification to become a Fertility Coach. In order to help more people, I’m currently building my company Moon + Fig Fertility. I’ll be starting off with personalized Fertility Coaching and Support services. To address fertility journeys even more holistically I’m planning to add fertility reiki as well as fertility and pregnancy nutritionist services. All of these services will be offered in my local community as well as globally!
The Impact
On any journey, the mental and physical preparations are crucial to the success of the adventure. Although you may not have thought about fertility and preconception before, these stages are in fact as important to a healthy outcome as the care given during the pregnancy itself. This is understandable, both because menstrual health is still something of a taboo, and because pregnancy itself is such an exciting experience. But there are real consequences for not properly preparing for a fertility journey, like difficulty conceiving, postpartum issues, or poor child health outcomes. My aim is to empower people in their fertility journey by providing whatever kind of support they need to prepare themselves for natural or medically assisted conception. This applies to people at any point in their fertility journey, whether they are taking the first steps to becoming aware of their cycle and removing fertility-limiting toxins from their home, or if they are in the middle of their fight against infertility and are looking for more resources and support.
What the Funds cover
With your help I will be able to:
· Get my company started (website, branding, marketing and printing costs)
· Books and educational materials
· Administrative costs
· Further certification to provide the best and most holistic support possible
