Darcy's fund

This is our beautiful 3 year old daughter, Darcy. She loves her big brother Dylan (who loves her right back) and like most girls of her age is a huge fan of Peppa Pig and Disney Princesses, especially Elsa and Anna from Frozen.

After a lovely week away camping as a family, we were bathing her and noticed that the left side of her tummy looked different and when we felt it there was a big hard lump under her skin. We took her to the doctor and were referred to the children’s hospital where following an ultrasound scan we were told one of the worst things a parent could hear, that she had a cancerous tumour on her kidney. Following diagnosis she had more scans, a biopsy and a hickman line fitted in her chest for chemotherapy to be given. Darcy was so brave and never complained despite being poked and prodded by countless doctors and nurses. We were told by the doctors that she has a Wilms tumour on her left kidney, and that she would be receiving 4 weeks of chemotherapy, followed by an operation to remove her kidney and then a further period of chemotherapy.

Darcy has faced several stays in hospital, some horrible side effects from the chemotherapy and a major operation to have her kidney removed. She was unable to have her 3rd birthday party,  will not start nursery school in September with all her friends, something she was really looking forward to, and has missed out on many of the activities that a 3 year old should be enjoying during the summer.

It is horrible to watch your child going through such a horrible ordeal but her bravery and ability to keep smiling despite everything she has had to endure has been inspirational and the support our family has received from our local community has been so fantastic. We have also had amazing support from LATCH, a fantastic charity that has helped us so much, not least by providing accomodation for us to both stay at the hospital during Darcy's stays there and providing facilities for the whole family to spend time together away from the ward. We are also grateful to several other charities that have assisted us during this difficult period.

This fund has been set up to help make some wishes come true for Darcy after all she has gone through and misssed out on and to help with any side effects or needs she may have as she recovers. We would also like to use part of the fund to make donations to LATCH and other charities that have helped us so much during this period, in order that they can continue their amazing work helping families like they have with us.

We would like to thank everyone for their support and donations throughout this time.

Thank you for reading Darcy’s story.
