Life knocks everyone of us down at some point - it's how we get back up that makes all the difference.
Having both legs amputated only 11 weeks ago due to advanced diabetes my son is no stranger to being knocked down. His response - ingenuity & work even harder renovating his home to make it wheelchair friendly. The man is definitely a champion.
Today James & a gutsy female friend unloaded a pile of used lumber he needs to reinforce the sagging addition on his mobile. James has a flat dolly that he has modified to use as a scooter to do low work on the house like relevelling the foundation & replacing skirting & floors. He & his friend loaded the lumber onto the dolly & James made several trips from the front drive to his back yard towing the loaded dolly with his mobility scooter. They got it done. Amazing.
His home needs SO many repairs as well as adapting it for his wheelchair. It's a daunting proposition for a whole & healthy person but James is determined missing legs are not going to slow him down & refuses to be handicapped - although he did laugh & admit he is now slightly 'height challenged'.
With the generousity of friends, kind strangers & what James & I could scrape together we were able to get the downpayment for an older mobile home close to the hospital & pet friendly but needing adaptations to be wheelchair accessible.
James is eager to complete wheelchair ramps & widening doorways but although we've purchased many of the building supplies we are still lacking many of the materials for him to work with. We have a quote of $7,990 for the building supplies, lower cabinets, lowering his kitchen, stove & sink, enlarging the bathroom, etc so he can access other rooms in his home. James is a brave guy & doesn't waste any time feeling sorry for himself, he's willing to tackle this huge job despite pain & healing & his missing legs. He remains cheerful & upbeat & just keeps forging ahead.
Amputation is FOREVER - James needs his forever home to be wheelchair friendly in every way. He is very independent & immediately resumed cooking, baking, laundry, shopping & caring for himself & his pets but his home holds so many traps for a person in a wheelchair.
I am appealing for help to build a
HOME ADAPTATION FUND for James
- we can handle the monthly costs & pad rent. Your contributions will go directly to James' renovation fund.
Even $20 can do so much !
Example: $20 x 399 Caring People = $7,980.
Please take a moment right now to send
ANY AMOUNT
to https://www.gofundme.com/home4james
- any & all contributions will be greatly appreciated.
And please take another moment now to forward to your friends & social groups. Sharing is SO powerful !
Sadly, we can’t cure James' diabetes & couldn't save his legs but we CAN make him more comfortable at home - PLEASE send just whatever you are comfortable with to https://www.gofundme.com/home4james
My eternal gratitude for your help - James’ Mom.
