Hello! My name is Catherine Kim and I am a junior at Diamond Bar High School. I have been selected to attend the National Student Leadership Conference (NSLC) on Medicine and Health Care at Harvard Medical School.
At the NSLC, I will have the opportunity to participate in leadership development workshops where I will develop skills including effective communication, public speaking, and ethical decision-making. In addition, I will participate in hands-on clinical rounds including the following: Suturing, Testing Vital Signs, Surgical Knot-Tying and Identifying Cranial Nerves. I will also have the chance to learn medical examination and surgical techniques, and participate in diagnosis and treatment. Furthermore, I will learn about today’s health care challenges and explore advanced scientific research in areas such as cancer. In recent years, NSLC students have met with and learned from leaders in the medical community such as Dr. Francis S. Collins, M.D., Ph.D., Director of National Institutes of Health and Vice Admiral Vivek Murthy, U.S. Surgeon General.
The cost for me to attend the conference will be $4,000.00. This includes the program, room and board, course materials, program activities, and travel to the conference (not including money for other incidental expenses). Unfortunately, my family cannot afford the entire amount; therefore, I am requesting your assistance. Your financial support in any amount will make a big difference in helping me attend the NSLC.
