NSCSP - Flood Relief Fund Nepal

Donation protected
As you may have already heard in several News and social media, a major flood and landslide have struck the Terai region of Nepal. The country has barely recovered from a devastating earthquake in 2015. The severe monsoon, heavy rainfall, landslide and the flood have affected over 100,000 people in 26 of the 75 districts of the Nepal. According to the Home Minister Janardhan Sharma, ‘Around 80 percent of the land in flood affected Terai districts has been inundated. Around 26,000 houses have been destroyed by the flood. Over 31,000 families had been forced out of their houses in the hardest-hit areas and are awaiting the rescue from the local Government and/or social organizations. A report says 700 tourists are trapped in a Chitwan National Park since Saturday morning.  According to the Kantipur Publication, Aug 15, 2017, the death toll of this disaster is already 120 with dozens of people missing and unaccounted for.

In the eastern city of Biratnagar, the airport was closed after the runway was submerged under more than half a meter (2 feet) of water. The physical infrastructure like highways, bridges, roads etc has been swiped away which complicated the rescue operations. The Government does not seem proactive in this horrific situation.  And there is a fear that Nepal could face food shortages due to crop losses because Terai region is considered to be the breadbasket of the country.  And this disaster came at the worst time for the farmers as they just planted their rice crop.

Do you know? A child was killed by a flood and the father of a child left his child on the water as a funeral because he could not find a dry place. You can now imagine how worse the situation is there.

After knowing all these facts, we can now conclude Terai people need following:

1.       They need emergency support
2.       They need food, warm clothes/blankets, and temporary shelter.
3.       They need a first aid/medical treatment to avoid any possible contagious diseases like cholera, diarrhea etc
4.       They need rigorous rescue operation

On behalf of NSCSP (Nepali Speaking Christian Students Professionals), we would like to request you all to keep flood victims in your prayers. May God comfort the families who lost their loved ones. May God save them from any uncertainties. Please pray for the women, infants, mothers and old people who are forced to stay in rain, with no food and shelter.  Please pray Nepal could recover from this situation soon. Please pray for all rescue and relief organization, local churches, brothers, and sisters affected by this devastating flood. Please pray for the generous heart for this humanitarian works. 100% of the collection will directly go to the flood victims in Nepal. It is our goal that we maintain the transparency of the expenses throughout this process. We continue to look for a suitable organization in Nepal so that we can disburse all your contributions. NSCSP President Mr. Ashok Ghimire himself will be heading to Nepal end of August and will be working with trusted local organizations to ease this process.

Please also forward this post to your friends, churches, local charities, non-profit organizations for prayer.

May God Bless You All God’s People.

Sincerely,
NSCSP Team
