Carlos 's Liver & Kidney Transplant

Donation protected
It was the summrr of June 2013 and something was just not right. I had started to lose alot of weight was short of breath . Also my stomach area was looking just like my father . You see Poly Cystic Liver Kidney disease runs in my family and it is autosomal meaning the male is more likely to inherit the disease . My father passed away from the disease at its worst as he chose to not have a Transplant . On June 26th 2013 I had my appointment with my primary and after him explaining that my Liver is now 3 times the size and up against my diaphragm making it difficult to breathe as in shortness if breath . It is also traveling upward and downward and out thru my belly button and has restricted my lungs now by 40 percent . Before I knew it I am now facing a Liver physician Dr Wakil of Sutter Pacific Medical Center in the month of Ocober2013 . He explains to me that I am extremely malnourished , dehydrated , that I am classic Liver Kidney Disease . After an examination from Dr Wakil as my girth is huge and my appetite has diminished . He explains that due to the girth and enlarged liver ravaged with cysts affecting both kidneys also  . That my stomach and inside organs are being crushed causing damage to my organs lungs and stomach causing horrendous nausea and vomiting , shortness of breathe , huge loss of appetite and alot of pain . See I am running out of Time and Space as they explain it and I am in need of a Liver and Kidney Transplant . They say it is a slow progression but at 53 I look just like my father did near his worst and having presently the same type of complications he was experiencing . On February 13th after a day out in Arcata Ca with my partner I became extremely sick as in fever, severe chills , vomiting and a pain in my abdominal area that I had never experienced in my life . After a visit to my local ER St. Josephs in Eureka Ca they couldn't figure out and sent me home due to no beds . I was instructed to go home but return if I could . I did return to the ER again 2 days later as I could not take the pain anymore. They diagnosed me with E Coli ( an infection) as one of my cysts had burst inside me and I could not breathe due to the size of my enlarged Liver. After stabalizing me I was transported by ambulance to Mckinleyville Airport and airlifted  directly to South San Francisco Airport with a medical team of EMTS on board . I was met by another ambulance . From there we proceded to Sutter Pacific Medical Center and up to the 6 th floor for Liver and Kidney patients who were very sick such as myself and patients awaiting and recovering from a transplant. I was there a total of 26 days where I was treated for the infection from the burst cyst , my shortness of breathe I was able to receive oxygen badly needed as I need it often but at this time unable to afford it .Introduced to the Transplant program and its team doctors who treated me, extensive CT scans as to better see my insides but I am a maze of cysts and a huge liver 3 times presently. I was home after that hospitalization and now see my liver doctor here every 6 months as he has a practice here in Humboldt County and my primary physician is located here also enabling me to manage my health still via Humboldt County Ca . In the mean time I deal with alot of pain as my liver shifts and smashes my stomach causing alot of morning vomiting and nausea and then that stresses my liver causing everything to unravel. The toxins build up via my liver and my kidneys and I end up with nights of sweats , pain, loss of appetite , breathing, frequent trips to the bathroom as my liver will sit on my bladder and I am up all night . The Morphine raises havoc with me making me not myself at times. I also use a oral synthetic marinol to help me eat but even that has stopped. As I move into November 2015 I have my appointment with my Liver Doctor and can ask all the questions that eat me up so often . How big is my Liver now and how much more is it obstructing my breathing smashing my lungs. Are we running out of time and space and where are we with the Transplant? I have had alot of reservations posting my need for a dual Transplant and for asking for help . Any help would help me secure my housing adjacent to the Sutter Pacific Hospital in SF after my Transplants as I must remain in SF in case of rejection for 2 months.I will have 25 new prescriptions that I will take so I know there is another need. I understand a Liver Kidney Transplant is in the 650,000 Dollar area so I know I am in trouble . I wont need to worry about blood supply as blood is expensive but I am 0 Positive and you also may donate blood for my surgery. My partner is Blind so he does not drive . If I get very sick and I am unable to get my self to SF I will be in huge trouble so a financial need to get to SF via Humboldt will be eminent.  I dont know whats ahead but I remain optomistic hoping they will find a match upon time of surgery.  See I want to come home to my little house in Mckinleyville California with my boyfriend and our little dog . I saw my father succumb to the same disease and I don't want to die at 53. I saw what my father went thru and I choose life = I am willing to take the risk as many things could go wrong. But as I close I am afraid yes but I have a huge amount of faith in god . I also have a great guy in my life that shows me everyday anything is possible and who supports me 100 percent in good and bad. I am extremely Thankful for the small circle of family I have as well as my dear friends of Humboldt . I thank each and everyone of you for just taking the time to pause and read my story . Love Carlos
