Fundraiser for Sense of Place Cafe - ALL PROCEEDS GO DIRECTLY TO K!
Organized by Mike Marketti, Christopher Lee, and Carly Tew - all regulars of K's.
To anyone else who’s shared a glass of wine or coffee at K’s:
It saddens me to see airlines and big corporations being given bailouts while local businesses lay off staff or shutdown entirely during these crazy times. Unfortunately, Sense of Place is among those struggling. Along with a drop in business and unyielding landlords, K intimates bankruptcy within a month or two, and she is understandably crestfallen. Nevertheless, she tries her best to keep a positive outlook and remain open for the few regulars who she just can't let down - a testament to the kind of wonderful person she is.
I like K’s. She knows my name, and she knows yours. I came from South Carolina knowing no one but K’s was a block from our apartment and she made me and my girlfriend feel at home immediately. The warm environment, decor, jazz music in the evening, compels you to turn to the regular next to you and start up a conversation. I don’t know of any other establishment that does this. Perhaps you’ve had a similar experience, and if so, maybe theres' something we can do about it.
The only silver lining to this awful pandemic is that it may inspire a renaissance of altruism and duty to our fellow person. Maybe the first step towards that can be saving our favorite neighborhood hidden gem from closing its doors. I should add that she doesn’t know about this so we may even be able to surprise her on top of it.
I know many of you have your own troubles during this time. I myself have elderly loved ones with underlying health conditions and I worry about them every day. I have, however, been fortunate enough to keep on working so me, Mike Marketti and Carly Tew are kicking off a fundraiser for K to do whatever we can to help her. We've started it with $200 but anything will help. The goal is to have enough to hopefully help keep the lights on so she can ride this thing out. Once the fundraiser has ended, I’ll post a picture on her social media pages of her receiving the proceeds along with a card with the names of every contributor.
If we can keep her afloat for a few months more, when this is over, perhaps we'll see each other again for our morning coffee or at one of her wine nights, where we always meet amazing new people. Kay will hug us, the music will be playing, and we'll drink every bottle she has.
Stay safe ya'll, and thank you for listening.
Kindest Regards,
Christopher Lee
