Help invest in building a future of BPOC-led cooperatives with Decolonising Economics

Decolonising Economics is excited to announce the launch of "Investing in BPOC-led Solidarity Economics", a cooperative learning programme focused on Black and People of Colour (BPOC) leadership, taking place in Autumn 2022.

We need YOUR support to ensure that we can build a cooperative learning programme that centers BPOC leadership!

Decolonising Economics is a grassroots collective committed to building a solidarity economy rooted in racial justice principles. We will be launching this programme as a way to invest in intergenerational learning, strategy and practice.

We’ve connected with elders in our communities who were involved in cooperative mobilising in the past and who are still doing this much needed work. Work they fear will be lost in history and are desperate to share with the younger generation.

Cooperatives have a long history within Black and Brown communities; as a space for racial justice organising  that centers the needs of the community  instead of profit.

From the Windrush Generation who utilised cooperative economics to be able to survive structural racism in the UK, to the communities facing violence 1970s race riots.

The legacies of cooperative development stand to be further lost in history, or white-washed through programmes that seek to depoliticise the radical nature of cooperative organising in Black and Brown communities.

We’re raising £10,000 to design and deliver vital work. By supporting us, you will allow us to:
- Offer BPOC organisers scholarships to attend
- Contribute to existing BPOC-led initiatives in housing, worker coops, land and food
- Commission community groups and cooperators with expertise to run programme modules
- Ensure our programme is fully accessible and inclusive to all BPOC organisers
- Create a free resource guide presenting the curriculum that can be used by communities of colour in the UK

All of this work will be made possible by your support to our Crowdfunder. Please give whatever you can, and/or share with your friends, family, and other networks.
