Hi! I created Note To Self originally as a digital zine (a self-created mini magazine) to have an outlet to express things that had happened in my life and what I saw taking place in the world. I called it Note To Self because I wanted it to be a no-pressure project that was above all for myself to heal, reflect, and express myself with no boundaries and limitations. I covered (and uncovered) my experiences with grief, regret, finding joy, and self-growth. I critically (and with sarcastic humor) depicted things I was learning about like housing insecurity, privatization, and racism. I found a sense of empowerment and revival as I created. Slowly, I began sharing my zine and was moved by the feedback I received. It was not only meaningful to me, but to others as well.
From there I began imagining what it could look like to share that kind of learning and critical reflection about justice issues alongside space for emotional response using art, meditation, and spiritual practices. That's how Note To Self School was born.
This percolation of an idea took place in late 2023, early 2024 when Israeli attacks on Gaza in response to the Oct. 7th attack were impossible to ignore. I began an intensive and ongoing self-education to learn as much as I can about what is taking place, the history, the ideology, and the continuous Nakba (catastrophe) inflicted on the Palestinian people.
This developed into NTS School's first course is Israel, Palestine, and the US. Its second round is beginning soon and I need your help to make improvements and bring this to more people. Donations will be used toward:
- subscriptions for a webinar platform and other digital tools
- materials such as books so that I can continue to learn and share this knowledge
- travel expenses so I can take it on the road and offer one-day and mini workshops!
- making this a sustainable project as it takes a substantial amount of time to read, stay informed, develop curriculum and class materials, and teach the class to anyone who is interested without putting a cost burden on participants.
Every donation means a lot no matter how much. I greatly appreciate all of your support! If you are able, consider becoming a monthly contributing member on my Patreon, but you can always join for free if you're not able to contribute. I'm just glad you're here!
Peace, Sabrina
