Norwood Community Center Eagle Scout Project

Tax deductible
My name is Ian Davis. I’m a Scout in Norwood, currently planning my Eagle Scout Service Project to benefit the Norwood Community Center. I have been involved in multiple programs in the Center over the past decade, and I hope that through my project, the building (and the groups within) can gain the exposure and confidence in their image they need to help make our Community a better place!

The Community Center, where my Scout Troop meets, has acted as a hub for events in Norwood for decades. Ever since it was converted from the St. Elizabeth Elementary School into the Donald E. Prues Community & Senior Center, it has been a place of gathering and Community Benefit. From Basketball games, to Martial Arts classes, to Cub and Boy Scout Meetings, to Community Yoga Programs, and more! As the Pandemic has progressed, some programs have opened back up, but the Center itself is still nowhere near ready to host the laughter and joy it did before March of 2020.

But without help, it’s far more challenging for the current programs to attract Norwood Youth as they once did. And so, I have planned my Eagle Scout Service Project to benefit the Community Center, and the city that it serves. From the fabrication and installation of new, custom signage in the front of the building to help improve tenant visibility to the public, to the removal of thousands of pounds of old school furniture, unused for decades, to the design and painting of a Community-driven mural on the exterior of the building, and more, my project aims to breathe life into the Community Center, and help prepare it for the coming years uninhibited by the Pandemic.

The project is planned to evolve in two phases:
1: Interior & Mural Work - July & Early August of 2021 - Construction of ramp, removal of all items from attic, completion of outdoor Community-led Mural.
2: Signage & Landscaping - Late August/Early September 2021 - Installation of Custom Signage, planting of landscaping around the base of the signage.

And by donating today, here's how you can help:

Your generous contribution will fund the following:

-$5650: New, Custom Signage on the Carter Ave. side of the building, with 12 tenant panels per side to showcase organizations and groups currently in the center.
-$120: Ramp construction in order to remove the desks from the attic.
-$450: Volunteer supplies & accommodations, including food, gloves, first aid supplies, and other protective equipment.
-$130: Paint & other painting supplies for the outdoor mural.
-And a $150 margin for unexpected expenses/additional costs.

"But Ian," you might say, "I want to help, but I really can't donate right now. Is there another way I can get involved?"

Certainly! I'm always looking for interested volunteers to help with the labor sections of this project, (the school gear removal, especially) and would love to get in touch with you! Please fill out the handy-dandy volunteering form here in order to give your availability this summer, as well as your information!

With your help, the Norwood Community Center can continue to serve our area's youth in providing a productive, fun, and educational setting for years to come!

Thank you!

*And also, a very big thank you to my Troop's partnered Fundraising organization, Friends of Troop 9, for granting permission to accept all tax-deductible donations I receive for the project in their name.
