Norwegian Day Parade!

Hip Hip Hip Hurra!

The 17 de mai Norwegian Day parade has been a Chicago area tradition since 1899. To celebrate Norway’s Constitution Day (May 17th), Scandinavians from around the state come together to march or view the parade throughout the streets of Park Ridge. Hosted by the Norwegian National League , their main goal is to showcase the Norwegian culture by providing an opportunity for people to reminisce and learn more about this historic day. Patrons enjoy eating traditional foods such as polse and lefse, as well as, browsing the different vendors. As a child, some of my fondest memories are from marching in this parade and watching the Leikarringen Heimhuggers perform traditional folk dance in front of the Park Ridge City Hall. It gives me such joy to continue the tradition and participate in the parade with my daughter!

Unfortunately, planning and putting a parade together can be costly. According to the Norwegian National League, the parade costs on average $6,000 - $8,000 to cover insurance for the day, facilities, city fees, parade groups, etc. As a non-for-profit organization, the NNL needs your help in order to keep this tradition alive. Any donation amount is greatly appreciated! Contributions not used for the 2018 Norwegian Day Parade will be allotted towards future Norwegian Day parades.
