Northwest Tortoise is expanding yet again. The demand for rescue space never stops.
The lower shed:
- has out lived its usefulness (10+ years of use)
- 10 x 12 feet, it's too small, the wiring is too low wattage
- Its in the worst possible area of my yard because as soon as the sun hits it, it's 90F
- Ventilation is poor at best
The new shed (16 x 20, 14 feet high) will allow me to have two separate, walled off, insulated, temperature controlled areas for brumation. One section will house Gopher tortoises brumating (they need a higher temperature than other tortoises). The second section will house Box Turtles, Greeks, Russians, and/or any other brumating species that comes along!
Additional space will be used for storage. I have soooo much stuff for the tortoises I need a central place to keep it. Currently, its all over my house and garage!
A new shed with brumation space will allow the upper shed to accommodate more non-brumating and/or sick or rehabbing turtle or tortoise species.
Sheds of this size are not cheap. The base price is $4,200, installed. This does not count materials for electrical wiring, insulation, fan, vents and wood for walling off the brumation areas.
