2016 Northside 4th of July Parade

Tax deductible
Northside's 4th of July Parade is, no question about it, very special. Unforgettable. Legendary. Creative. Joyful. Engaging. It's a true celebration of the Northside neighborhood, and it's been happening here with gusto since 1854, starting as an orphan's parade. It's probably the oldest 4th of July parade in Ohio, but it's undoubtedly the most fun parade anywhere.

But we need your help. It costs money for the Northside Community Council to put on this parade. We pay for police, road barriers, port-o-lets, printing, advertising, and permits, and, like everything else, these costs go up annually.

Some of our costs are covered by parade fees - mostly from politicians, because we don't charge for residents to be in it. We only charge parade fees to businesses and those running for office, we also have a $10 "carbon tax" fee we charge for each vehicle. Since Cincinnati City Council went to four year terms three years ago, we've had less politicians in the parade, so we've had less income. We're all OK with fewer politicians in our parade, but now we have less money in our account as of the last couple of year.s

Some of our costs are covered by city NSP grants - but we've received less from the city in recent years. It's becoming harder for community organizations like ours to stage community events, because costs are rising, but traditional funding sources from the government are becoming more scarce as printing, permit, and police fees increase.

The mission of the Northside Fourth of July Parade is to celebrate independence and to serve as a tool for community building. Parade organizers work to invite and involve people from all corners of the community as both participants and viewers. The parade offers a way to get to know one’s neighbors through a shared light-hearted activity. Neighbors who know one another and have laughed together are more inclined to be involved and to make their neighborhood a nicer place to live.

The Northside Fourth of July Parade is presented by the Northside Community Council (NCC) and coordinated by the NCC’s Fourth of July Parade Committee. The parade starts at the northern boundary of Northside and travels south on Hamilton Avenue to Hoffner Park, where the celebration continues with the Northside Rock & Roll Carnival, the Happen Family Fun Festival, and SPUN Bicycle's killer BMX demonstrations.

Please join us in Northside Monday, July 4, at noon to help us celebrate. For more information, visit our web page at northsidejuly4.com . You can still sign up to be in the parade or volunteer for the parade at that link too.

We love our parade and just want to do it again next year! Our goal is to make enough money that we're guaranteed enough money to start the process again next year. We're all volunteers. We meet for about six months out of the year to figure this out.

We do this because Northside.

SUPPORT US?

If you can you give a little to our parade, we promise you, it will be money well spent. If you can't give, PLEASE COME ANYWAY!
