Northaw Community Orchard
Donation protected
Northaw Communty Orchard is a public space on two fields in the centre of Northaw. It is a wonderful spot with wildflower meadows, fruit and nut trees and places to walk and sit away from the hurly burly. The orchard was created in 2014/15 on previously inaccessible land which can now be enjoyed by all. As well as conserving many heritage fruit varieties it is a haven for wildlife with butterflies, birds and wild flowers. It is maintained with conservation in mind due to its important status as a Local Wildlife Site.
The orchard is managed by a team of three volunteers through a not-for-profit organisation called Northaw Transition CIC. With the help of other dedicated volunteers we look after the site, mow the paths and care for the trees and the wildlife there.
We receive no public funding and our weekly costs, mainly for insurances, equipment and essential works are around £30. This year due to Covid-19 we have been unable to raise enough money through fund raising events. In previous years we have held a stand-up comedy afternoon and a live band Dance for the Orchard event in the village hall as well as our regular Apple Day, Wassail, Scything Workshop and other community events. So we are asking the community if they would like to make a small donation to see us through this difficult period. Any contribution, however modest will really make a big difference to us and enable us to carry on the good work for the benefit of all.
We're sure that many of you have visited the orchard and enjoyed its tranquility. If you haven't been already, do come and see for yourselves what a beautiful and peaceful oasis this is.
Best wishes
