Over the past five years, it kept all of us informed about all wrestling duals tournaments involving wrestlers from our area. Not only has it provided great “live” coverage to keep everybody involved and interested, it covers off-season events, and also recognized coaches and athletes for all of their accomplishments through his end-of-year stories on every team.
On many occasions, Shannon Heaton, who is THE Florida Matmen, was encouraged to make it a paid site where content would be subject to subscriptions, but his belief in the content of the site is that it should be free for everybody to use. From day 1, all of the results, stories and brackets have been accessible to anyone with a computer .
All of his work and enormous number of hours spent to keep us all updated are, with the exception of a few donations received two and three years ago and the random one or two more recently, totally unpaid and he is simply doing it for the love of the sport and his journalistic nature.
Over the past few months, as some of you know, Shannon’s had to deal with some very unfortunate situations that put a lot of strain on him and his family not only financially, but also emotionally and yet he still continued his unselfish commitment to our local wrestling community. He’s a single dad and his teenage son is often home alone while he’s covering the wrestling matches in which our kids compete.
With all that being said, it would be very fair to ask that anybody who is able and willing to make any sort of contribution to Shannon for all of the work he has done for all this years. Not all of us agree with some of the content or opinions, but that’s what makes it great!
Keep in mind that your contribution, regardless of how small or large it is, is a simple token of your support and appreciation for what he did and it is not a payment for more content or extra features to the site. As Shannon stated before, he is doing as much as he can on the site and if time or other circumstances allow he will do more.
Even if you can’t help financially, simple “Thank you” note to Shannon or a share of this page would be a good thing.
